Featured Snippets
Featured Snippets are highlighted search results that Google places above the regular organic listings – often in a so-called “Position 0” box. They answer a user’s question directly in the search results, without the user needing to visit the website. The information comes from a webpage that Google considers especially relevant to the given search query.
These snippets can appear in various formats: as a paragraph, list, table, or more rarely as a video. Common triggers for featured snippets are search queries with W-questions (“What is…”, “How does… work”) or clearly defined information needs.
For example, if a user enters “How does remarketing work?” into Google, a short explanatory text - from a blog article, for example - can be displayed as a featured snippet. The user immediately receives a compact answer, supplemented by a link to the complete source.
For website operators, a featured snippet is especially valuable because it conveys high visibility and authority in the search results. It can significantly increase the click-through rate (CTR) – especially when the answer makes the user curious to learn more.
To increase the chances of obtaining a featured snippet, content should be clearly structured, precisely formulated, and well prepared for search engines using HTML elements such as H2/H3, lists, or tables for better readability. Additionally, specifically answering common questions within a post raises the likelihood of being selected by Google for this prominent position.
